Discovering Your Local Farmer's Market

If you're looking for a fun family outing or simply a place to find great produce, you really should check out your local farmer's market. Regardless of where you live, you can most likely find a farmer's market nearby. Every weekend across the nation, farmers and crafters tote out their best produce and unique hand-made products for eager buyers. You'll find not only great food, but perhaps enjoy a fine day out.

Depending on where you are in the country, the farmer's markets will vary. You'll find that some are small and laid back, while others are huge, highly organized affairs with everything imaginable to see and do. You will certainly find a big variety of fruits and vegetables that are in season. Buying from your local farmer enables you to get fresh, organic produce at very affordable prices while supporting your community.

If you're concerned about whether or not the produce is really organic, just take a moment to chat with the growers themselves. They'll be able to tell you how they grow their produce. Most will proudly display the fact that their produce is grown without pesticides or preservatives. Talk about healthy food. Locally grown organic produce is the freshest, tastiest food around. At many farmer's markets you can find locally grown meat too. Hard to find meats such as buffalo or emu are often available. Looking for homemade breads, mixes, mustards, jams, jellies, etc., etc.? Then your local farmer's market is the place to go. There's so much to look at and choose from, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

In many areas, farmer's markets regularly have local artists and crafters selling their hand-crafted wares as well. You can plan an entire morning around the farmer's market with your family and find some great gifts, home decor, clothing and much more.

Next weekend, get up early and head out to your local farmer's market. Take your family and be prepared to shop. You'll find the freshest produce available and enjoy a great time out in your community with your family. Support your local growers, crafters and artists at your famer's market.
